2021 Campus Briefs
UTTC adds to campus
United Tribes Technical College (UTTC) has been operating under a synchronous virtual learning environment for the fall 2020 and spring 2021 semester. Some programs, including welding, heavy equipment and athletics, have continued face-to-face and have implemented innovative safety protocols to allow for safe operations.
UTTC is nearing completion of the 32,000-square-foot education building, which is a $4 million project and will serve as a central location for several academic programs on campus and as a new library and archives. UTTC has also recently finished the Cozy Creek Café and Student Union, which will serve as a gathering place on campus when all students return (hopefully in the fall of 2021).

Bank of North Dakota helps plan, pay
Bank of North Dakota (BND) provides student loans and resources to help students achieve their career goals after high school. It partners with Dakota Association of College Admissions Counselors to bring www.careercompass.nd.gov to North Dakota residents. This is a one-stop location to attend college fairs, access College Application Month instructions and participate in numerous webinars, along with viewing videos and the college handbook.
North Dakota Dollars for Scholars, a statewide scholarship program, and College SAVE, the state’s 529 plan which helps residents save for college, are administered by BND. When federal student loans, grants, scholarships and savings don’t cover college expenses, BND’s student loan program can fill the gap. Visit www.bnd.nd.gov for more information about these programs.
Mayville State offers online, flexible degree options
Mayville State University (MSU) offers exciting options for rural residents who wish to earn teaching degrees while continuing to live and work in their communities. Through online classes and distance synchronous classes (which students join remotely), students will learn from highly experienced MSU teacher education faculty members, while completing practicums, experiential learning and student teaching near their homes and jobs.
Students studying via online and distance courses will complete the same high-quality, accredited teacher preparation bachelor’s degrees in early childhood education, elementary education, special education, secondary English education or secondary mathematics education that MSU has offered on campus since 1889, when it began preparing teachers in North Dakota.
Additionally, students with earned bachelor’s degrees can pursue the Master of Arts in Teaching degree for non-teaching bachelor’s degree graduates seeking to become licensed secondary teachers in North Dakota. MSU offers current teachers online professional development opportunities, including an undergraduate special education certificate, undergraduate and graduate certificates in online digital teaching, kindergarten endorsement and library credential.
