“The important point is that all storage options should keep the grain dry and provide adequate aeration to control grain temperature,” says North Dakota State University Extension Agricultural Engineer Ken Hellevang. “Grain must be dry and cool (near the average outdoor temperature) when placed in alternative storage facilities, because providing adequate, uniform airflow to dry grain or cool grain coming from a dryer is not feasible.”

NISC was formed from the 2000 merger of North Central Data Cooperative (NCDC), Mandan, with Central Area Data Processing Corporation, St. Louis, Mo. NCDC was formed by electric and telephone cooperatives of the Dakotas in 1968.

Carl Ben Eielson was born in Hatton, and lived from 1897 to 1929. The Eielson family was large, and their father was a successful merchant. Carl Ben stepped aside from his studies at the University of North Dakota to join the U.S. Army as World War I unfolded. He learned to fly in 1917, as part of his U.S. Army Air Service enlistment, and got further pilot training in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
