N.D. homeowners have until March 31 to apply for a new property tax credit up to $500.

The Primary Residence Credit (PRC) was established last year through the legislative process. Homeowners must apply online for the state property tax credit through the office of the state tax commissioner. Approved applicants will receive the credit as a reduction on their 2024 tax statement, which will be mailed in December.

To qualify, you must own a home in North Dakota and reside in it as your primary residence. There are no age restrictions or income limitations for the credit, and only one PRC is available per household. North Dakotans claiming the farm residence exemption may not qualify.

Homeowners will need to provide their Social Security number and the parcel number of their primary residence, which is listed on their property tax statement, to complete the application by the March 31 deadline.

Complete the online application and find more information at tax.nd.gov/prc. Direct questions to the state tax commissioner’s office at 701-328-7988 or toll-free 877-649-0112.
